Three people killed in I77N crash in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va. (WOWK) - Three people have died after a crash on I-77 North in Jackson County, West Virginia. According to West Virginia 511, the accident happened at mile marker 119 in the Goldtown area around 7:30 a.m. The road was shut down for much of the morning, but Jackson County dispatchers say it has now reopened. According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, three people were killed in the crash. Details on their identities have not been released at this time. Following a preliminary investigation, it is believed that a Red Dodge pickup truck crossed over the median and hit a Black Kia head-on. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says two of the individuals killed were in the Kia and the third individual was in the pickup truck. "Truthfully, one of the worst collisions I've seen," said Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger. "I've seen a lot of them in my time, but this is one of the more devastating collisions I've seen." A grey sedan and a tractor-trailer were also involved in the crash, and officials say those drivers are believed to have sustained minor injuries.
