Three men indicted for fatal Canaan boat crash
Three men from New Lebanon were formally charged in Columbia County Court in connection with a tragic boat crash on a lake in Canaan that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old named Henry Miller. The individuals are Charles Bingham III, aged 21, his father Charles Bingham Jr., aged 45, and Kayden Crawley, aged 21. They all pleaded not guilty to various charges. The incident occurred on July 4 at Lake Queechy in the early hours. Authorities found a 16-foot Stratus bass boat that had collided with the shore. It was determined that Bingham III was allegedly intoxicated, speeding, and driving in the dark when the crash occurred, causing Miller to be ejected from the boat. Bingham Jr. initially claimed he was the one driving, but evidence showed he was not present during the crash. Crawley was accused of providing false information to the police about who was behind the wheel. Despite the DA's objection, Bingham III was released without conditions by Columbia County Judge Michael Howard after the arraignment. Bingham Jr. and Crawley were also released without any conditions following their court appearances.
