Three children, two adults killed in southwest Kansas crash
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Five people are dead after a crash in Hodgeman County on Thursday. The Hodgeman County Sheriff's Office is asking drivers to avoid the area of Kansas Highway 156 between Jetmore and Hanston. Jetmore is about 30 miles northeast of Dodge City. The Kansas Highway Patrol said a 2005 Dodge Dakota was traveling east on the highway when it left the roadway with its passenger tires. The driver of the Dodge then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to spin and strike a westbound 2023 Ford Ranger. Four passengers in a Dodge — 29-year-old Brianna Mae Katherine Kauffman of Garden City and three children under 8 — were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, 45-year-old Adam William Edwards of Garden City, also died. The driver of the Dodge, a 48-year-old man, was flown to a Wichita hospital with suspected serious injuries. According to the KHP crash log, no one in either vehicle was wearing a seatbelt. The road reopened shortly before 7 p.m.
