THP chase ends in East Memphis crash, minor injuries reported
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A high-speed chase involving the Tennessee Highway Patrol on Saturday ended in a large crash scene and minor injuries. According to THP officials, a pursuit began just before 12 p.m. when a suspect fled in their vehicle from a trooper near American Way in the Parkway Village neighborhood. During the pursuit, the suspect's vehicle struck another vehicle—not involved in the chase— around 12:10 p.m. in the area of I-240 on Walnut Grove Road in East Memphis, according to THP officials. The crash could be seen on TDOT cameras, that showed a large response from emergency crews including the Memphis Fire Department, ambulances, and THP troopers. Authorities say minor injuries were reported. WREG Investigators explained how we have been pushing for THP policies regarding pursuits. Several requests have been made through a Freedom of Information Act request. That request was denied, attorneys saying the records are confidential. The Tennessee Coalition for Open Government says letting the public know policy is important. At least one state lawmaker from Memphis is also calling for a review of the THP pursuit policy. WREG is working to learn more information about this incident, including if the suspect was taken into custody and who was injured.
