THP: 18-year-old passenger dead after Highway 421 crash in Sullivan Co.
SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — An 18-year-old passenger is dead after a crash in Sullivan County on Tuesday morning, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP). A preliminary THP crash report states a 2008 Subaru Impreza was heading north on Highway 421 near Pyle Road at 3 a.m. The vehicle reportedly ran off the right side of the road and hit a fallen tree on its right side. The Subaru came to rest on the embankment facing south. The highway patrol identified the passenger of the vehicle as Justin Hall, 18. Hall was killed in the crash. The report states Hall was not wearing a seat belt. The 19-year-old driver was injured in the crash, according to THP. The crash report states the driver was also not wearing a seat belt. Charges against the driver are pending, depending on the outcome of an investigation. The highway was closed for hours after the crash, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) reports that Highway 421 (SR 34) was closed on Tuesday morning due to a crash. According to TDOT, the single-vehicle crash took place on Highway 421 near the South Holston Lake Bridge on Tuesday at around 3:31 a.m. TDOT said the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) initially closed both north and southbound lanes of the highway, but one lane has since reopened with flaggers in place to direct traffic.
