Teenager facing involuntary manslaughter after fatal crash in Joplin

A Joplin woman was killed late Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash and a 17-year-old now faces possible charges.Joplin Police were called to a two-vehicle crash at 20th and Pearl Avenue just before 11pm Sunday.Officers and emergency personnel provided lifesaving measures at the scene before she was transported. She was later pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as 47-year-old Sarah Trayer.Investigators say it followed a disturbance that had taken place near 26th Street and Maiden Lane involving two groups of juveniles. One vehicle occupied by juveniles and an 18-year-old female began following a white Ford Raptor, also occupied by juveniles, at a high rate of speed.Police said both cars were traveling north on Pearl, approaching 20th Street, when the Ford Raptor entered the intersection and hit Trayer's eastbound vehicle.Investigators believe excessive speed and a failure to stop at a stop sign caused the crash. On Monday, the 17-year-old male driver of the Ford Raptor was taken into custody. Police say he is not from Missouri but did not release other identifying information. He was turned over to juvenile authorities and is being held at the Senator Ron Richard Juvenile Center on a petition for involuntary manslaughter. The investigation is ongoing.
