Teen dead, man airlifted after Newaygo County motorcycle crash
MERRILL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 16-year-old died in a motorcycle crash in Newaygo County Sunday, deputies say. Just before noon, the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office was called to the area of Woodbridge Road and 8 Mile Road in Merrill Township for a motorcycle that had crashed. Deputies said two people were on the motorcycle — a 16-year-old from Fremont and a 38-year-old man from Newaygo. The teen died at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. The man had serious injuries and was taken to a Grand Rapids hospital by helicopter, deputies said. Fremont Public Schools confirmed that the 16-year-old who died was a student at Fremont High School. The district said it's working on grief support plans and its Crisis Response Team will be meeting Monday morning. "We are devastated and want to extend our deepest condolences to the student's friends and family," Fremont Public Schools Superintendent Brad Reyburn wrote in a letter to families. "Our number one priority as a district will be supporting our students and staff as we navigate this tragic loss as a school community." The sheriff’s office is investigating. It’s not clear what led up to the crash and the victims were not identified by deputies.
