Taunton woman dies following crash in Raynham

A Taunton woman has died following a crash in Raynham on Wednesday, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said on Thursday. The Raynham Police Department and the Taunton Police Department responded around 8:00 p.m. to the area of King Phillip Street and Gardiner Street for the crash. Responding officers found a vehicle had gone down a steep slope and into a wooded area. The vehicle was damaged, and the driver suffered significant injuries, according to police. ALSO READ: Weather Alert: Dangerous heat Thursday and Friday The driver, 54-year-old Maura Whittemore, was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s sister, Massachusetts State Rep. Lisa Field, said in a statement, “My family and I received the heartbreaking news last night that my sister, Maura, died in a car accident Wednesday. I want to express my deepest appreciation to Maura's colleagues at Bridgewater State University for their concern and support, as well the Taunton and Raynham police departments, Raynham Fire Department, and State Police for their skill and professionalism. Please take a moment today to give a loved one a hug to let them know that every day with them is a precious one.” The crash is still under investigation.
