Tampa man arrested after 2 killed in Lutz crash
A 21-year-old Tampa man has been arrested in connection to a crash Sunday in Lutz that killed another driver and a passenger, troopers said.Navesh Persaud was driving a Nissan Pathfinder north on U.S. 41 about 5:45 p.m. when he crashed into a Toyota Camry near the intersection with Debuel Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The Toyota driver was also heading north on U.S. 41 at the time.The Toyota driver, a 53-year-old Land O’ Lakes man, and one of his passengers, a 60-year-old Lutz woman, died at the crash scene. Another passenger, a 55-year-old Lutz man, was injured and hospitalized.Persaud was also injured. Investigators determined he was impaired at the time of the crash and after his release from the hospital arrested him on two counts of DUI manslaughter, troopers said.The Highway Patrol did not release more information, and an arrest report was not immediately available Monday.Persaud was being held in Hillsborough’s Falkenburg Road Jail and was scheduled to have his first court appearance Monday, records show.
