Tampa flights cancelled after deadly crash shuts down LaGuardia Airport in NYC
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- A deadly crash at New York’s LaGuardia Airport is already impacting travelers in Tampa. As of Monday morning, Tampa International Airport’s flight boards showed several cancellations, including multiple flights to LaGuardia, after the New York airport shut down following the overnight crash. Port Authority officials said an Air Canada Express plane carrying 72 passengers and four crew members collided with an airport rescue vehicle while landing at LaGuardia late Sunday night. Officials said dozens of people were hurt, with 41 taken to the hospital. By Monday morning, 32 of those patients had been released. LaGuardia was expected to remain closed through at least 2 p.m., with that being the earliest possible reopening time. Passengers at Tampa International told News Channel 8 they were already seeing the ripple effects as flights to and from New York were canceled or delayed. The crash remains under investigation, and the National Transportation Safety Board is now working to determine what caused it. Officials say more flight disruptions are expected as the closure continues and airlines work to rebook travelers. This is a developing story. WFLA will continue to update this story on air and online as more information becomes available.
