Suspected Long Beach DUI crash leaves 2 hospitalized, home nearly destroyed

A suspected DUI driver was arrested, two women were hospitalized and several residents were apparently displaced after a crash that left a Long Beach home badly damaged and uninhabitable. Police and firefighters responded to reports of the crash at a home near East Bort Street and Long Beach Boulevard just before 2 p.m., according to photojournalists with the video news-gathering service O.C. Hawk. Details were limited, and the circumstances leading up to the crash remained unclear. Preliminary information suggests the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove through a fence into the home, causing significant damage. Footage from the scene showed a white Infiniti SUV at least halfway inside the residence, with part of a wall completely destroyed. Sections of a fence were also scattered from the impact. One woman was seen on a stretcher with a bloody face as paramedics wheeled her to an ambulance. A second female victim was also transported to the hospital. A man, believed to be the driver, was also taken to the hospital after video showed him blowing into a breathalyzer for police. He was arrested after being medically cleared, KTLA confirmed. The conditions of the two female passengers were not immediately available. It was unclear how many people were inside the home at the time of the crash. Video showed at least three people being escorted away from the residence, which was later red-tagged, meaning it was deemed unsafe to occupy until repairs are made. It is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, and it was unclear if any arrests had been made. KTLA has reached out to the Long Beach Police Department and is awaiting a response.
