Suspected DUI crash closes Highway 1, leaves 1 dead and 3 injured
A crash forced a full closure of Highway 1 late Saturday night in the area of Springfield Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.CHP said officers are investigating the crash at Highway 1 and in the area of Springfield Road. Both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 1 were closed as of 10:19 p.m.A preliminary investigation found that a 2014 GMC Sierra pickup traveling southbound, south of Jensen, sideswiped a Ford F-150 in the northbound lane. The GMC continued driving in the northbound lane and collided head-on with a Honda Accord, according to the CHP. There were three occupants in the Honda, all adult men, who sustained major injuries. The driver of the GMC, also an adult man, suffered minor injuries.CHP dispatch later confirmed with KSBW 8 that a person died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash.DUI is suspected for the driver of the GMC, the CHP reported. Drivers are being urged to use alternate routes while the investigation continues.
