Suspected drug trafficker causes fiery crash killing 2 people in Seminole County, sheriff's office says

A car driven by a suspected fentanyl trafficker broadsided another vehicle Tuesday in Casselberry, killing the two people inside of it, according to police. Seminole County deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect's vehicle around 11:51 a.m. on 25th Street near State Road 417 in Sanford, yet the suspect failed to stop and drove away, the Casselberry Police Department said in a statement. The police department said the sheriff's office did not pursue the vehicle out of concern for public safety, opting to instead use its Aviation Unit to maintain continuous aerial surveillance from a safe distance, the statement reads. As the suspect traveled southbound on U.S. Highway 17-92, at times exceeding speeds of 100 mph before entering Casselberry, he crashed into another vehicle near Sunnytown Lane around 12:04 p.m., according to police. The two occupants of the other vehicle suffered fatal injuries and the suspect was taken into custody at the scene of the crash before being transported to a local hospital for treatment, the statement reads. Casselberry police were investigating the crash as a traffic homicide at the time of this writing. Criminal charges are forthcoming, police said.
