Suspect at large after crash, carjacking in South Salt Lake
SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (ABC4) -- A suspect is on the run after a crash and carjacking in South Salt Lake Sunday morning, according to South Salt Lake Police. At around 10:45 a.m. on April 26, police responded to reports of an accident and stolen vehicle near 3200 South 900 West in South Salt Lake. Officers arrived on scene and learned that an 18-year-old male had been driving southbound on 900 West in a Ford Fusion when he crashed into a concrete barrier to the side of the road. According to Shaun Ward, South Salt Lake Police, a 70-year-old man pulled over to check on the crash. At that point, the 18-year-old suspect stole the good samaritan's vehicle — a 2005 red Chevrolet Malibu — and drove away, heading northbound on 900 West. Officers believe the suspect was under the influence. An ATL (attempt to locate) has been put out to all agencies across the Salt Lake Valley, Ward said. The suspect is currently at large.
