Suspect arrested in deadly hit-and-run crash in Highlands Ranch
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — The driver accused in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian and seriously injured two others in Highlands Ranch had a revoked driver's license, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Authorities identified the suspect as 28-year-old Adam Bauserman, who was arrested Monday following the crash. Court records show Bauserman was convicted of driving under the influence in 2025, and Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said his license had been revoked. "He should never have been on the roadway," Weekly said. "And as a result of that, somebody is now deceased." The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says Bauserman allegedly drove onto a sidewalk near the intersection of East Wildcat Reserve Parkway and Willowbridge Way in Highlands Ranch on Monday morning, hitting three pedestrians. One person died at the scene, while two others suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital. According to an arrest affidavit, two witnesses told investigators the crash appeared to be "intentional." Weekly said authorities have not yet found evidence to support that conclusion. "The investigation is still ongoing, and if we can prove that, we'll certainly do that," Weekly said. "But at this point, we have no indication of that." The sheriff's office said a witness helped deputies locate Bauserman after he allegedly drove back through the crash scene. Deputies later found and arrested him about 5 miles from where the collision occurred. According to the arrest affidavit, Bauserman admitted to deputies that he had struck someone and believed the person was dead. Court documents state he later asked deputies, "Do you know if I killed the man?" Investigators plan to search Bauserman's cellphone and vehicle and are awaiting the results of a blood test for a toxicology report, but Weekly said preliminary information indicates Bauserman was not intoxicated at the time of the crash and was traveling only a few miles per hour over the posted speed limit. Bauserman faces nine charges, including vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash involving death. He is being held on a $100,000 bond. "Somebody in our community has been lost in such a tragic, horrible way," Weekly said. "How many lives have been destroyed by this selfish act? It’s very, very disheartening and, again, completely avoidable." According to the affidavit, the two people hospitalized in the crash were a 30-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman. The 30-year-old sustained multiple broken bones and fractures, while the 72-year-old suffered a brain bleed and fractured ribs. Both victims remain in serious condition but are expected to survive, according to the sheriff's office. Investigators are still asking witnesses to come forward with information, including anyone with dashcam or security video of the crash.
