Student's death in car crash saddens Tusculum
Tusculum University is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a 19-year-old student, Payton Cook, who passed away in a car accident last week. President Scott Hummel expressed the university's profound grief over the loss in a public statement, emphasizing the impact it has had on both Cook's family and the Tusculum community. Cook, a freshman studying business administration and a member of the lacrosse team, was fondly remembered as a "gentle giant" who enjoyed nature activities and collecting Pokémon cards. While four other students involved in the crash are recovering from injuries, they are thankfully not life-threatening. The university has mobilized its resources, including the Office of Student Affairs and Human Resources Department, to support those affected by the tragedy. A memorial service in honor of Cook was held at Pioneer Arena on Monday, with a moment of silence observed at the men's basketball game and planned for the women's basketball game as well. President Hummel expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and urged respect for the privacy of those impacted by refraining from speculating about the incident.
