Student, 12, dies in rafting accident during school trip
EAST PENN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS Newspath/WKRC) - A 12-year-old boy from New York died after a rafting accident during a school trip to Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains, officials said Thursday. School officials in Sag Harbor, New York, confirmed the student's death following the incident Wednesday. According to the Carbon County Coroner's Office, emergency responders were called to a reported drowning in East Penn Township on Wednesday evening. The boy was pulled from the water by members of the Lehighton Fire Department but was pronounced dead shortly before 7 p.m. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the accident. The investigation remains ongoing.
