State Road 38 fatal crash under investigation
WAYNE COUNTY, Indiana (WKEF) -- A head-on collision on Saturday in Wayne County, Indiana led to serious injuries and a fatality. According to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a car crash at 12:30 p.m. on State Road 39, east of Jacksonburg Road. A 16-year-old male driving a 2013 Ford Focus was traveling eastbound with a 16-year-old passenger, and crossed into the westbound lane. He struck a 2011 Nissan driven by 70-year-old Sue E. Gettinger. Gettinger was pronounced dead at the scene. Both 16-year-olds were seriously injured and had to be extricated from the vehicle. The driver was flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, and the passenger was transported to Reid Health. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Team was called to assist in the investigation, along with the Hagerstown Fire Department, Economy Fire Department, Greens Fork Fire Department, Reid Health EMS, Careflight, Lifeline, Wayne County 911, and the Wayne County Coroner's Office. This crash remains under investigation.
