Southern California couple killed, daughter suffers ‘life-altering injuries’ in head-on crash
A Santa Clarita family is mourning the loss of their parents in a head-on crash Friday night. Genry and Patty Ortiz were driving home from church with their daughter, Erin, when the crash occurred, killing the couple while Erin was hospitalized with "severe and life-altering injuries," according to a GoFundMe for the family. Erin's brother David and his wife, Kaitlyn, flew in from Colorado to be with her. “She’s doing better than I expected, which is a blessing really," David said. "She’s got a lot of fractures.” Despite that piece of positive news, the Ortiz children are mourning the loss of their parents and leaning on their faith for solace. “It’s hard to manage my emotions and whatnot," David said. "I think God is the only one that can give you that peace.” Kaitlyn, who's been married to David for less than two years, said a devastating loss like this isn't something you "expect to navigate so early in your marriage." "I just want to be here for you and the whole family," she said. "We’re just praying for that wisdom and guidance on how to navigate this ... They just loved the Lord with all their heart and were just the greatest examples.” A GoFundMe has been set up to help the Ortiz family pay for funeral expenses and Erin's medical care.
