South Shore teen allegedly drove stolen car 100+ mph before crash

A 16-year-old from Scituate, Massachusetts, was arrested after allegedly stealing a car on Saturday night and speeding through a neighboring town at more than 100 miles per hour.Scituate police alerted their Cohasset counterparts just before 11 p.m. that a 2014 Toyota Rav4 that had been stolen in their town and to be on the lookout, according to officials.Cohasset police said Officer Kevin Lynch saw the vehicle traveling at 104 miles per hour northbound on Route 34 near the Shaw's Plaza, which has a 35 miles per hour speed limit.When the teen saw the cruiser, he lost control of the Rav4 in the wintery conditions.The vehicle fishtailed, left the roadway, went airborne, hit a tree, and came to a rest in a large snowbank, according to investigators.The teen driver was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be rescued. There were no other reports of any injuries.The teen was eventually transported by ambulance to South Shore Hospital for further evaluation.Because the vehicle was allegedly stolen in Scituate, a Plymouth County town, and the crash and additional offenses occurred in Cohasset, a Norfolk County town, the juvenile will face charges in both counties.“Driving 104 miles per hour through our community placed countless lives at risk," said Cohasset police Chief William Quigley. "We are extremely fortunate that no innocent motorists, officers, or pedestrians were injured. The coordination between our officers and Scituate Police ensured this dangerous situation was brought to an immediate end.”
