Six hospitalized after multi-vehicle crash on the H-1 Freeway

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A multi-vehicle crash on the eastbound H-1 Freeway in Pearl City Saturday evening shut down a stretch of the highway and sent six people to area hospitals, according to emergency officials. The collision occurred near Exit 10 just before 5:15 p.m., prompting a large emergency response that included six ambulances and multiple Honolulu EMS units. According to the Honolulu Police Department, the eastbound H-1 was closed between the Waipahu on-ramp and the Waimalu off-ramp as first responders worked at the scene. Initial reports indicated six vehicles were involved in the crash, according to Honolulu Fire Department. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said crews treated several injured patients and provided advanced life support to six people before transporting them to nearby hospitals. Among those transported were a 34-year-old woman and a 45-year-old woman, both listed in serious condition. Three others, a 33-year-old man, a 10-year-old girl and an infant girl were transported in stable condition. EMS officials also evaluated two teenage boys at the scene who did not require hospitalization. Authorities have not released details on what led to the collision and the investigation remains ongoing.
