Single-vehicle crash in Raleigh leaves hundreds without power, Barwell Road closed: Police

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Police are investigating what led to a car crashing into a woodline early Sunday morning in southeast Raleigh. According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded to a motor vehicle collision around 2:45 a.m. on Barwell Road near Holiday Drive. A spokesperson for the police department said a car had crashed into the woodline along Barwell Road. The spokesperson said the car took down some power lines, resulting in a power outage. According to Duke Energy, there are currently 465 customers without power in that area. No injuries were reported, said the spokesperson, but a section of Barwell Road near the crash will be closed for an extended period of time so crews can finish repairing the damaged power lines. Officers estimate Barwell Road to be fully reopened around 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon. This is a developing story.
