Singer Oliver Tree dies in helicopter crash
Fans of Oliver Tree are mourning his death after the singer was killed when two helicopters collided mid-air in Brazil on Sunday. It happened in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, which is in the Southwest zone of Rio De Janeiro, at around 9:00 a.m. local time, The New York Times reported. The two choppers collided over an electric car lot, setting at least 20 cars on fire, CNN Brasil reported. Five people were in one helicopter, which included one pilot and the other one just had a pilot on board. All six people were killed. The victims were identified as 32-year-old Tree, whose full name is Oliver Tree Nickell, 23-year-old Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Prim Díaz, who goes by Gaspi, music producer Lucas Brito Chaves, known as Lucas Frota, and Lucas Vignale. The pilots killed were Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac. The victims' bodies were taken to the Afrânio Peixoto Forensic Medical Institute. Police told CNN that the case is being investigated by the 42nd Police Station and that "A forensic examination of the site has been requested, and agents are conducting investigations to determine the facts. Further investigations are underway to determine the causes of the aircraft crash." Tree was in town for his world tour, where he performed in São Paulo on June 6. He was set to kick off the European leg of the tour in Lisbon, Portugal, on July 1, CNN reported. Hailing from Santa Cruz, California, Tree was known for songs like "Life Goes On," "Miss You" and "Alien Boy." Diplo took to Instagram to pay tribute to Tree in a lengthy post. He wrote in part: "I don’t think we’ll ever have another human like this again. No rules. No apologies. He was 1000% himself and on a mission to add more joy to this music scene. I’ve never experienced anyone with this high a level of vibration. When I heard the news today, I hoped it was some elaborate, painstakingly insane way to drop a new song. But it wasn’t.My friend crashed in a helicopter. It doesn’t feel real. Part of me still thinks I’m going to see him in a few weeks, exactly like always. What a f--king rockstar he was.I’m not gonna say I miss you yet, because somehow you’re still here.Still inspiring me right now." Rapper and singer T-Pain also honored Tree on social media, saying, "Thanks for sharing your art and for always being different in the best way possible. See you on the brighter side."
