Shooting possibly tied to rollover crash on Chicago's South Side

A suspect was arrested after shooting at Chicago police officers and crashing his car during a chase Monday morning in the Gresham neighborhood.The shooting happened just after 6 a.m. in the 7500 block of South Peoria Street, according to Chicago police. Officers were sitting inside two marked CPD vehicles when someone started firing shots in their direction.No officers were hit in the shooting or returned fire. The suspect got into a black Nissan SUV and fled the scene.Officers pursued the suspect until he crashed into two parked cars near the intersection of 76th Street and Union Avenue. The suspect tried to run away but was taken into custody and a gun was at the scene.Two officers were taken to a local hospital for observation but have since been released.The suspect was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he remains in police custody.Traffic was closed in both directions on 76th Street between Halsted Street and Lowe Avenue until around 11 a.m.Area One detectives are investigating.
