Shelter-in-place lifted after vehicles crashes into building, damages gas line

DENVER (KDVR) — A vehicle crashed into a building in Douglas County on Wednesday afternoon, according to a post on X from South Metro Fire Rescue. The incident occurred around 1:14 p.m. in the area around South Chambers Road and East Main Street. A gas line was damaged in the crash, and a heavy odor is present in the area, according to the post. The gas was successfully shut off, and the shelter-in-place has been lifted. A shelter-in-place was issued for a half-mile radius from 10700 Chambers Road, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported. Nearby Pine Grove Elementary was sheltering in place. Two people were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said to close windows, turn off air conditioning and do not use anything that generates heat or flames. Southbound Chambers Road is closed while the crash is investigated. South Metro Fire Rescue, the Parker Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office are responding to the crash.
