Sentencing of driver who caused fatal DUI crash that killed Golden police officer scheduled for Wednesday
The man responsible for hitting and causing the death of Golden Police Officer Evan Dunn will receive his sentence on Wednesday morning at the Jefferson County courthouse. Stephen Geer, who admitted guilt in the DUI-related crash that claimed Dunn's life and injured others, accepted a plea deal in October of last year. Geer faced several charges initially but eventually pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and vehicular assault while driving under the influence. The tragic incident occurred when Geer collided with multiple vehicles and individuals at the site where Officer Dunn and another officer were responding to another crash. Officer Dunn, described as an incredible individual by Golden Police Chief Joe Harvey, left behind a grieving wife, parents, and siblings. Geer's minimum sentence, based on the plea agreement, is four years, with a maximum of 18 years in prison. The sentencing will commence at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Geer, a former assistant professor at the Colorado School of Mines, will now face the consequences of his actions.
