Selma man killed, child critically hurt in Hwy 41 crash

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Selma man died, and a 3-year-old child was critically injured in a crash involving a Toyota Camry and a Kia Optima on Highway 41 in Fresno, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP said the crash happened around 2:25 a.m. Sunday on southbound Highway 41, north of Highway 180. Officers said the Toyota was stopped in the middle lane with no lights on when the Kia, driven by a 33-year-old Fresno woman, crashed into the rear of it. CHP said several drivers had reported near misses with the disabled Toyota before the crash. The child, who was in the Kia, was wearing a seat belt but was not in a child safety seat as required by law, officers said. An adult passenger in the Kia also suffered major injuries. The Toyota driver was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
