Scrapyard employee killed in tractor-trailer accident, investigation underway

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A scrapyard employee was killed Friday in what authorities are calling an unfortunate accident. Emergency crews were sent to Joe Krentzman and Son's scrap dealer along Wall Street in Hollidaysburg just after 2 p.m. The Blair County Coroner's Office arrived at the scrapyard soon after. According to the initial 911 dispatch, a tractor-trailer overturned in the yard and trapped the driver inside. Detective Jeff Friday later told WTAJ that an employee was killed after a dump trailer attached to the tractor-trailer suffered a mechanical failure, causing it to tip sideways. The motion caused the trailer to break and fall on the truck's cab, crushing it. Coroner Ray Benton identifed the employee; however, WTAJ is withholding the name per the family's request. Benton said that the employee suffered crushing injuries when the trailer rolled onto the cab. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday morning, March 2, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. The accident remains under investigation. Friday explained that no other employees were involved in the accident.
