Sandbridge Road in Virginia Beach temporarily closes after crash

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) -- Sandbridge Road in Virginia Beach has been temporarily closed after a crash left a man with serious injuries Saturday morning, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department. At around 7:45 a.m. on July 4, Emergency Communications and Citizen Services received a reported single-vehicle crash in the 700 block of Sandbridge Road. When officers and EMS personnel arrived to the scene, they found a man with life-threatening injuries. The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The preliminary investigation revealed that a Jeep flipped into a ditch, and no other occupants were inside of it. Virginia Beach Police have confirmed that both sides of Sandbridge Road are shut down as first responders investigate the crash and clear the scene. The department also advised the public to avoid the area and expect delays. There is no estimated time for when the road will reopen. As of 10:02 a.m., a detour is in place through the NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex. Officers and military personnel are there to guide drivers through the back gates leading to Sandpiper Road. Commuters should expect a heavy traffic presence in the area. The department's Traffic Safety Unit is now investigating this crash.
