San Benito woman sentenced in fatal McAllen crash

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A San Benito woman was sentenced to 11 years in state prison on Wednesday, more than four years after authorities say she killed a woman and injured two others in a drunken driving crash in McAllen. Claudia Ann Carrizales, 33, of San Benito, pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle in the 476th District Court, records show. A judge sentenced Carrizales to 11 years for the manslaughter charge, and 10 years each for the intoxication assault charges. The sentences will run concurrently. The crash happened Jan. 6, 2022, on the 1300 block of East Nolana Avenue, according to a previous ValleyCentral report. The indictment against Carrizales said she was driving while intoxicated "by reason of the introduction of alcohol, a controlled substance, a drug, a dangerous drug or a combination of two or more substances into the body." Cynthia Ann Lopez, 46, of McAllen, died from injuries in the crash.
