Route 57 closed in Liverpool after tractor trailer accident, sheriff’s office says
LIVERPOOL N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- New York State Route 57 is closed off in both directions in Liverpool on Tuesday night following an incident involving a tractor trailer, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office said. The route is closed between the Liverpool Bypass and Meyer Road after a tractor trailer accident "that resulted in a downed traffic signal near the New York State Thruway entrance," Tom Newton, public information officer with the sheriff's office, said in a statement at about 7:52 p.m. That portion of Route 57 will stay closed to general traffic until further notice, due to the need for infrastructure repairs and the extent of the damage. Emergency crews are assessing damage at the scene and "working to safely restore the intersection," Newton said. Only southbound commercial truck traffic is currently allowed to be on Route 57 to get to the thruway entrance, Newton said, while other vehicles need to find alternate routes. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use detours nearby. Another update will be sent when the roadway reopened, Newton said.
