Rockford teen charged in deadly crash that killed two teens
ROCKFORD, Ill (WTVO) — The Winnebago County State's Attorney's office has charged a teen in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on Friday, January 16. According to Rockford Police, around 11:27 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of North Mulford Road to reports of a crash with injuries. When officers arrived, they found a crashed vehicle and two teenage victims, 18-year-old Leslie Morena-Rivera and a 14-year-old passenger. Officials said both were taken to a local hospital, where they were both pronounced dead. Police said a warrant for 18-year-old Jamari Sims was approved on Thursday, April 2, and he turned himself in on Friday, April 10. Authorities said Sims is no longer in custody due to pre-trial release requirements under Illinois law. He is charged with two counts of reckless homicide and aggravated street racing.
