Mexican restaurant's liquor license suspended after deadly DUI crash in Louisville

The city of Louisville is suspending the liquor license for a popular Mexican restaurant after it served people involved in a fatal DUI crash.The crash happened May 14 around 5 p.m. at the 700 block of Logan Street.Three women were in a car when they hit a building. Ayanna Wilbanks, 19, died. Her sister was injured and the driver, 23-year-old Dasharay Ben'e, was charged with vehicular homicide.Before the crash, the women had been drinking at Veronica’s Mexican Restaurant on Poplar Level Road.Court documents say Ben'e told detectives she had one margarita, though police said her blood alcohol level was two times Kentucky's legal limit.A witness told WLKY the women at the restaurant were visibly intoxicated and stumbling.Metro Alcoholic Beverage Control began looking into the restaurant after the crash.They put out a news release Wednesday saying that based on toxicology reports and eyewitness accounts, they were issuing an emergency suspension order for the restaurant. ABC's investigation into potential alcohol-related violations at the establishment, including over-service, is ongoing.This action is limited to the Veronica’s location on Poplar Level Road.ABC officials said this is the 11th emergency suspension order issued as part of expanded efforts to address unsafe conditions and improve public safety through Mayor Greenberg's Safe Louisville plan.
