Road closed in Pleasant Hill due to train-car accident on Tuesday morning
In Pleasant Hill, Iowa, a road closure was initiated due to a collision between a car and a train on Tuesday morning. The Polk County Sheriff's Office announced that NE 56th Street will be shut down from NE 23rd Avenue (Easton Boulevard) to NE Metro East Drive. Drivers are urged to steer clear of the area and seek alternate routes until further notice. The incident, which occurred in the 1800 block of NEW 56th Street, involved a 33-year-old woman who was driving southbound and inadvertently entered the railway tracks just as a train was approaching. Although the vehicle sustained minor damage, the driver declined medical assistance on-site. There were no reported injuries by the crew of the Iowa Interstate Railroad train. The road closure will persist until the train is examined, cleared to proceed, and the site is thoroughly investigated. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
