Reopening of I-40 W near Cookeville after lengthy closure
All lanes of westbound Interstate 40 in Putnam County have been reopened following hazardous road conditions and multiple crashes that led to the closure of the roadway for several hours. The incidents occurred near the Willow Avenue exit at mile marker 286 around 3 p.m. Fortunately, by 7 p.m., the Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed that all lanes had been cleared. According to a THP spokesperson, approximately 20-30 vehicles were involved in the crashes, resulting in several injuries. One traveler, Lindsey Cutshaw from Knoxville, shared her experience, mentioning that she and her friends were on their way to a dental hygiene board review in Nashville when they got caught in the chaos. Cutshaw described the sudden heavy snowfall and the challenges of trying to stop their vehicle amidst the slippery conditions, leading to a significant pileup.
