Prosecutors: Driver in fatal I-10 crash not under the influence

Authorities have determined that the 21-year-old truck driver, Jashanpreet Singh, was not under the influence of drugs at the time of the fiery crash that resulted in the deaths of three individuals on the 10 Freeway in Ontario. Singh, a resident of Yuba City, was initially arrested on suspicion of DUI and faced felony charges related to vehicular manslaughter and drug-related DUI. However, subsequent toxicology reports revealed that there were no substances present in Singh's blood during the time of the incident. As a result, the district attorney's office amended the charges to include three counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and one count of reckless driving causing specified injury. The collision, which involved a total of eight vehicles including four big rigs and four passenger cars, occurred when Singh allegedly failed to brake, causing a chain-reaction crash. The tragic incident, captured on a dashboard camera, resulted in the loss of three lives and injuries to four individuals, including a former Pomona High assistant basketball coach and his wife. Singh is currently being held without bail at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto.
