Mississippi resident captures last escaped monkey from truck accident

The authorities announced on Thursday that the final monkey that had been on the loose, following an accident where a truck carrying them crashed in Mississippi, has been located and captured. A nearby resident called in the animal's whereabouts, leading to its successful recovery by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. The accident occurred on Oct. 28 on Interstate 59, roughly 100 miles from the state capital of Jackson, resulting in 21 monkeys escaping from the truck, with five of them sadly losing their lives during the search. Despite attempts to locate and secure the monkeys, two more were shot and killed by civilians who cited self-protection concerns. The monkeys, which can be aggressive, were not to be approached. The monkeys were part of a transport from the Tulane University National Biomedical Research Center, a facility that supplies primates for scientific research, though they were not Tulane's property. Thirteen of the monkeys arrived safely at their destination, carried by a company linked to biomedical research support. This incident sheds light on the confidential nature of animal research and the regulations that limit public disclosure on such matters.
