Preparing Your Car for Snow: Tips from Colorado State Patrol

The team of meteorologists at CBS Colorado is predicting snowfall on Wednesday morning. The Colorado State Patrol is urging drivers to prepare their vehicles ahead of time, noting that in November 2024, they responded to over 2,000 crashes due to poor driving conditions caused by snow. Most of these crashes resulted in property damage, leading to significant insurance costs and repair expenses for drivers. To avoid such incidents, troopers are recommending several tips to ensure vehicles are winter-ready. These tips include checking tire tread depth and pressure, maintaining a fully charged battery, servicing vehicle fluids, ensuring visibility with a snowbrush and scraper, and packing an emergency kit containing essentials like a first-aid kit, shovel, and thermal blanket. Colorado State Patrol Sergeant Ivan Alvarado emphasizes the importance of adjusting driving habits in snowy conditions, reminding drivers to slow down and adhere to the Move Over Law when encountering emergency vehicles or tow trucks on the road. Finally, it is advised that drivers inform someone of their whereabouts in case of an emergency.
