Power outage in Apex leaves more than 2,000 in the dark; Police say it was caused by accident

APEX, N.C. (WNCN) — A car accident in Apex has left thousands without power, with some customers not expected to get power back until late Thursday night. According to the Apex Police Department, a car accident at the intersection of Apex Peakway and South Hughes Street caused damage to "utility infrastructure" Wednesday afternoon. The Town of Apex said the accident involved two cars, with one car crashing into an electrical pole, knocking out power to the area. The Apex Electric Utilities power outage map shows 2,541 people are without power as of 5:14 p.m. The Town of Apex did advise utility crews are on the scene and have restored 90% of power to customers; however, customers in the immediate area may not have power back until about 10 p.m. Police are asking drivers to avoid the area as crews work to restore power and clean up the crash.
