Portland man struck, killed by vehicle at intersection in Bayside neighborhood
The Portland Police Department said a man has died after he was struck by a vehicle at an intersection in the city's Bayside neighborhood Tuesday morning.Police said the pedestrian crash happened shortly before 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Marginal Way and Elm Street/Preble Street.The pedestrian, a 49-year-old Portland resident, died shortly after he arrived at Maine Medical Center, according to police. Officials are not sharing his name at this time, as they are working to notify his next of kin.A Maine's Total Coverage photographer captured video at the scene that shows a vehicle was stopped on Elm Street, near a crosswalk at the Marginal Way intersection.The video also shows there were clothes in the crosswalk, along with a pair of shoes, a hat and a backpack. A walker was also spotted in the street.Police said the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash is an 82-year-old Portland resident. No charges have been field at this time. Police said the area was closed to traffic for about four hours while members of the Crash Reconstruction Team conducted a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.The crash remains under investigation.
