Polk County Sheriff's Office investigating deadly crash
The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly crash just east of Pleasant Hill. It happened early Thursday morning near NE 100th Street and NE University Avenue in the eastbound lanes. Crews have shut down the eastbound lanes of University Avenue, and drivers are urged to avoid the area and find an alternative route. According to the latest data from the Iowa Department of Transportation, 71 people have died so far this year on Iowa roads. That is 17 more than the number recorded at the same point in 2025.
