Police: Syracuse man arrested after crashing into and flipping over vehicle, fleeing officers in foot chase
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- A late Monday morning police chase in Syracuse ended with a vehicle allegedly flipping over in a crash and a suspect getting taken into custody after a foot chase. At about 11:55 a.m., officers saw a driver in a white Subaru Outback toss something out of a window, according to a statement from Sgt. Thomas Blake, a spokesperson with the Syracuse Police Department. When police tried to pull over the driver, they sped up the vehicle and drove away. The vehicle hit a gray GMC SUV near the intersection of Salina Street and McLennan Avenue, causing the GMC to flip over. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Jamel Nellons, of Syracuse, fled on foot after the crash and was subsequently taken into custody. He was later booked at the Onondaga County Justice Center on outstanding warrants and was issued traffic citations, the statement said. Emergency medical personnel from AMR Ambulance evaluated people involved in the scene.
