Police make arrest in fatal 2025 DC-295 crash

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced that it has arrested a driver after two cars ran over a 47-year-old man in 2025, killing him. MPD said that on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, around 11:35 p.m., officers responded to northbound DC-295 near the Pennsylvania Avenue SE exit for a reported crash. Officers found a pedestrian who was unconscious and not breathing, who had been hit by a car. DC Fire and EMS took him to the hospital, where he later died. MPD identified the victim as Edward Pearson of Southeast, D.C. During the preliminary investigation, police learned that a pickup truck had pulled over on the highway because of a loose truck bed cover. The driver and the passenger, Pearson, got out of the truck to secure the cover. While they were outside of the vehicle, another car was merging improperly from the I-695 on-ramp onto northbound DC-295 and hit the back of the truck and Pearson. After that first crash, another car driving north on DC-295 hit the truck and Pearson, who was in the road after being hit by the first car. Both of the involved drivers stayed on the scene. The driver and the passenger of the first car were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. On Thursday, June 11, 2026, the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force found and arrested 27-year-old Tyrique Dorsey, the driver of the first car to hit Pearson. Dorsey, of Southeast, D.C., is facing a charge of Murder II.
