Police investigate fatal hit-and-run crash near Poway
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened near Poway on Saturday night. California Highway Patrol said that at about 11:25 p.m., a traffic collision occurred at the intersection of State Route 67 and Scripps Poway Parkway. Authorities said a 33-year-old man was driving a Honda Civic northbound on SR-67 and entered the intersection to make a left turn onto Scripps Poway Parkway westbound. At the same time, a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling southbound on SR-67 entered the intersection, and the two vehicles crashed, police said. One passenger did not survive their injuries and was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Another passenger suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Police said the driver of the Honda Civic was evaluated and determined not to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe allegedly fled the scene after the crash. CHP said the investigation is ongoing.
