Police investigate crash involving Metro McAllen bus

MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — One person is dead and several others are injured after a crash involving a Metro McAllen bus and a box truck Monday afternoon. The crash occurred at about 5:41 p.m. at the intersection of Nolana Avenue and 23rd Street. McAllen police say the crash involved four vehicles, including an Isuzu box truck and Metro bus, which was carrying several passengers. The driver of the box truck, identified as a 60-year-old man, was unresponsive and trapped in the truck cabin when officers arrived at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. Police say several people were taken to a local hospital for treatment. ValleyCentral spoke with Krystina De Luna, a witness to the incident. "We saw what is the white loading van hit the Metro bus that was stationary, ready to turn on what would be Nolana. I dialed 911 at 5:41 p.m. and to my surprise, the Edinburg Fire Marshal had stopped there," De Luna said. De Luna said the driver of the truck was unresponsive, curled up in the front seat facing towards the Metro Bus, causing the steering wheel to go off loudly. She said that she also saw an older man get off the Metro bus and was placed on a gurney to seek medical attention. "The police arrived immediately after I called them. I'm going to say not even five minutes, and it was very good luck that we already had the Edinburg Fire Marshal," De Luna added.
