Pilot killed in small plane crash in southern Ohio
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WCMH) -- A Maryland pilot was killed Thursday afternoon when a small aircraft crashed in a rural area of southern Ohio, authorities said. The crash occurred at approximately 2:20 p.m. on April 17 near County Road 1A, about 2.7 miles west of U.S. 52 in Hamilton Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Troopers from the Ironton Post responded to the scene, where a 1987 Mooney M20J had gone down in a field near the address of 8 County Road 1A. The pilot, identified as David Wade of Salisbury, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said it was asked by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board to secure the crash site. The FAA will lead the investigation to determine the cause of the incident. No additional information was immediately available.
