Pedestrian struck, killed near Winthrop Veterinary Hospital, police say

A Maine man is dead after he was struck by a truck on Route 202 in Winthrop, according to police.Eric O. Stinson, 44, of Pittston, was identified Friday as the victim of the pedestrian crash, which happened shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday near the Winthrop Veterinary Hospital.The Winthrop Police Department said a black 2015 Dodge pickup truck was traveling east on Route 202 when it struck Stinson.Stinson was transported to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, where he died of his injuries.Winthrop police said the Maine State Police and Monmouth Police Department are assisting in the crash investigation.Police also said the Kennebec-Somerset District Attorney's Office has been notified of the crash. It is unclear if the driver of the pickup truck, a 51-year-old Augusta resident, will face charges in connection with the crash.The Winthrop Police Department said there were no additional updates as of Friday.Authorities are asking anyone who has information on the crash to call the Winthrop Police Department at 207-377-7226.
