Pedestrian fatally struck by impaired driver in Pinellas County crash: Sheriff's Office
In Madeira Beach, a tragic incident occurred on Friday resulting in the death of one individual in a pedestrian-involved vehicle collision. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reported that the accident took place at 9:01 p.m. when 72-year-old Michael Arndt was walking in a designated crosswalk near the intersection of 150th Avenue and Madeira Way. At the same time, 51-year-old Vanessa Downs was driving her Jeep Wrangler in the eastbound median lane on 150th Avenue. The impact caused Arndt to be underneath the vehicle, and despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital. Downs, who displayed signs of impairment and failed sobriety tests, was subsequently arrested by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and charged with DUI manslaughter. She was then transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
