Pedestrian dead in southeast Fort Wayne crash, speed & alcohol believed to be factors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — One man is dead following reports of an early morning Saturday crash in southeast Fort Wayne. The Fort Wayne Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of Hanna Street and E. Sherwood Terrace on reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. The 911 call came in at 2:20 a.m. Officers found a man lying in the intersection before medics pronounced him dead on the scene. Witnesses told officers that the vehicle involved in the crash fled immediately. While investigating, the FWPD determined that speed and alcohol were contributing factors to the crash. The FWPD Fatal Crash Team (FACT) and the Air Support Unit (ASU) also responded to the crash. The FACT team interviewed neighbors while the ASU documented the scene from above. The incident remains under investigation by the FWPD FACT Team and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
