Pedestrian dead after crash on Western Avenue in Knoxville, police investigate
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A 36-year-old man died Monday morning after being hit by a van on Western Avenue, near Eubanks Avenue, the Knoxville Police Department said. According to the preliminary investigation, a Dodge Town & Country Caravan was traveling south on Western Avenue then left the road for unknown reasons, running onto the sidewalk where it hit a man then struck a utility pole. Around 9 a.m., KPD officers responded to the crash. The driver, 48, told them his vehicle was having mechanical trouble, causing him to lose control, police said. He and the pedestrian were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where the pedestrian was pronounced dead. No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. When it's complete, the file will be given to the District Attorney's office for review, police wrote. Police cautioned drivers to expect delays and seek alternate routes in their post at 9:16 a.m. Monday.
